Chad Morris, PhD – Director

I am a Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, Director of the Behavioral Health & Wellness Program and Co-Director of the interdisciplinary Wellness Leadership Institute. I have been the principal for over 100 grants and contracts to study and implement effective organizational, psychosocial, and pharmacologic wellness strategies across the age range. I have had the privilege of providing clinical, public policy and program evaluation consultation across more than 35 states and internationally. I am a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT), and have served on a number of Boards including the American Psychological Association’s Council of Representatives, Colorado Psychological Association, National Association for the Treatment of Tobacco Use and Dependence, and North American Quitline Consortium. I currently serve on the Larimer County Behavioral Health Policy Council.

Cindy Morris, PsyD – Clinical Director

I am a clinical psychologist and the Clinical Director for the Behavioral Health and Wellness Program (BHWP) and the Wellness Leadership Institute at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, School of Medicine. I have developed many training programs and educational materials for administrators, healthcare providers, and peer specialists focused on health behavior change for whole health, work & well-being, and tobacco cessation. I also work with organizations to create systems that support the overall health of the organization, its employees, and the people they serve.

Christine Garver-Apgar, PhD – Research and Evaluation Director

I am an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, and Research and Evaluation Director of the Behavioral Health & Wellness Program. My research portfolio spans both basic psychological science and applied community-based research and evaluation. I work across multiple states to oversee strategic development of sustainable research and program evaluation initiatives. I am also a certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist.

Lavanya Rajesh Kumar, MSc, MPhil, PhD – Assistant Professor

In my present role as assistant professor in the Behavioral Health and Wellness Program, in the Department of Psychiatry at University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, I work with various national, state, and community agencies on projects related to mental health and wellness, tobacco cessation, Motivational Interviewing training, workplace resiliency, health behavior change, and digital health. Prior to academia, I headed a consulting firm where I worked with educational institutions and international corporations as their behavioral health expert.

Robyn Hacker, PhD – Assistant Professor

I am an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry with the Behavioral Health and Wellness Program (BHWP) at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. I am also a Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Addiction Counselor, and EMDR Consultant. My clinical work has focused on the intersection of substance use disorders (SUDs), co-occurring trauma, anxiety, and mood disorders, and my research has spanned criminal justice related topics, SUDs, and integrating technology into treatment delivery and training. I have worked within a division of the Colorado Supreme Court to provide confidential well-being support, training, and consultation to the CO legal community and have directed a specialized residential treatment track for professionals with SUDs working in safety-sensitive occupations.

Teresa Mescher, MPH – Research Associate

I am a Research Services Senior Professional with the Behavioral Health & Wellness Program, and I focus on conducting comprehensive community-based research and evaluation projects to effect behavior change. I received a BS in biology and a minor in anthropology from the University of Iowa. After conducting psychiatric genetic and neuroscience research for over a decade, I received a Master of Public Health in Population Mental Health and Well-being from the Colorado School of Public health. During my graduate studies, I developed skills in program design, implementation, and evaluation and had the privilege to apply them during two internships.

Ashley Kayser, MS – Research Associate

I am a Research Services Senior Professional at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus and have been a Research Associate with the Behavioral Health and Wellness Program since 2013. I received a BA in Biology from Colgate University and a Masters in Environmental Policy & Management from the University of Denver. At BHWP my roles have evolved over time to now encompass “a little bit of everything”, including grant preparation and submission, database management, survey construction, training curriculum development and production, large document editing, graphic design, and contract facilitation.

I am a Clinical Associate with the Behavioral Health & Wellness Program and a Board-Certified Health & Wellness Coach. I am also a Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist and member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT). Motivational interviewing has been the heart of my clinical practice and I am passionate about training others in this evidence-based communication style.

Derek Noland, MPH – Community Liaison

As a Community Liaison at the Behavioral Health and Wellness Program, I am typically involved in numerous different projects simultaneously. Among my primary responsibilities are assisting local organizations to enhance the tobacco cessation services they offer, supporting our work with vulnerable populations, and assisting with the provision of technical assistance throughout Colorado. In addition, I help to coordinate and lead wellness trainings locally and nationally, and support the development of our training materials through research.

I joined BHWP in the fall of 2013 and I am excited to continue working in an endeavor I began as an undergraduate, helping connect underserved populations to the knowledge and services they need to live healthy, fulfilling, and meaningful lives. I received a BA in International Studies, Spanish and Philosophy from Indiana University before going on to earn my Masters in International Relations at the University of Indianapolis.

I am the Program Administrator for the Behavioral Health and Wellness Program at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. I received a B.A. in Psychology from Arizona State University.
