Declaring Obesity a Disease Makes Treatment More Likely

This summer the American Medical Association recognized obesity as a disease requiring medical intervention. The AMA hoped this action “will help change the way the medical community tackles this complex issue.” Turns out they were right. Under the Affordable Care Act, more insurance plans will now begin covering the cost of treating obesity through counseling on diet and exercise, medications and surgery.
