Doctor Writes “Parks Prescription” for Youth

A pediatrician in Washington DC is changing the way he prescribes physical activity for his patients. In collaboration with the National Park Service and volunteers from George Washington University’s School of Public Health, park rangers and other doctors, he has compiled a database of all the parks in the area. He uses this information to create detailed prescriptions for physical activity for his patients. Projects like this are being developed across the country to help combat growing rates of childhood obesity.
