BHWP Team Members Published in Nicotine & Tobacco Research and BMC Public Health

Dr. Chad Morris and Dr. Susan Young have helped write a recent publication in the journal Nicotine & Tobacco Research. The article, “Quitline Outcomes for Smokers in 6 States: Rates of Successful Quitting Vary by Mental Health Status,” looks at data from 6 state quitlines and the reporting of mental health conditions. The article “highlights the importance of evaluating both the mental health status of individuals seeking support for smoking cessation as well as the individuals’ expectations for success because they may need a more tailored intervention.”

Kathie Garrett, MA, TTS-C was also published this week in the journal BMC Public Health. She contributed to an article, “Community-based navigators for tobacco cessation treatment: A proof-of-concept pilot study among low-income smokers,” that looked at smoking cessation treatment navigators. The study concluded “smoking cessation treatment navigators are feasible to study in community settings and are well-accepted for increasing use of evidence-based cessation treatment among low-income smokers.”
